A NOTE TO THE RESIDENTS OF WARD 3

Prior to my decision in May of 2021, to seek the position of Councillor for Ward 3 on the election day of October 18, 2021, I spent my time from late 2020 studying a wealth of information on the City of Calgary.

Reading the information on the City of Calgary website as to the committee structure and the duties, work description and true responsibilities of a city councillor is what has led me to make the decision to run for elected office.

As stated, I want to serve with passion and participate in creating change. I will work hard to ensure that we are investing in people and improving the quality of life in Ward 3 and throughout our great City of Calgary.

In my review of the documents on the City of website I reviewed a document titled:

‘Fall 2020 Quality Of Life And Citizen Satisfaction Survey. Ward 3 Final Report. November 2020.’  – Prepared for the City of Calgary by IPSOS Public Affairs.

In my review of this lengthy document, it outlined in great detail the methodology used to review the residents of Ward 3. The study provided the highlights, quality of issues, reaction to Covid-19 pandemic and Taxation as well as cited numerous City programs and services provided by the City of Calgary administration.

Overall the residents of Ward 3 stated:

  • 81% – quality of life rating..
  • 87% – of residents are proud to live in Ward 3.
  • 87% – felt safe walking alone in the neighbourhood after dark.
  • 83% – believe Calgary is a great place to make a living and to raise a family.

The major issue of concern is set at 26% for infrastructures such as traffic and roads, while 71% are satisfied with city programs and services.

I will approach the duties of Councillor “ TO SERVE”, to practice transparency, accountability, sustainability and to provide proper Governance and to exercise forms of Leadership.

I want to work to make Ward 3 and our city a greater place to live, work and raise a family.

Kumar Sharma,

Candidate
