CALGARY EMS SERVICE

FROM KUMAR SHARMA

CANDIDATE WARD 3

AUGUST 25, 2021

“Calgary EMS had no ambulance available more than 3500 times this past year”

“Calgary EMS system had 470 percent more red alerts—or periods when no ambulances were available—”

“Alberta Health Services confirmed to CBC News that the numbers are correct.”

“ Red alerts in Calgary have increased by 289 percent this year, compared with 2018…”

Information taken from CBC News Report posted August 24, 2021 , 6:34 pm MT

As the Candidate in Ward 3, this informative news alert is of great concern for all Calgary residents and has a troubling affect for residents in Ward 3; young families with children, senior citizens and all residents .

This is a priority for City Council to address immediately and I will continue to monitor this EMS Service for the City of Calgary as your representative from Ward 3 starting now and on election day October 18, 2021.

Childcare Investment

On April 19, the Federal Government announced a historical investment into child care.

Now the Federal Election is upon us and set for September 22, 2021. The debate is continuing with federal candidates in Calgary and across Canada.

During my continuous door-knocking leading up to the civic election set for October 18, 2021, it has become evident in Communities like Carrington and Livingston: and I assume across the Ward 3 Communities,  the need for affordable child care is a necessity.

Child care costs can be a major household expense for any family with a number of children. Access to quality, accessible and affordable child care is one means to ensure lowering the existence of child poverty and reducing barriers for women to enter the workforce.

From my work as your Candidate, I see the need for affordable child care when I see the many young families in our ward working so hard at their careers, jobs and meeting the daily expenses of living and support for their young and growing families.

With greater access to affordable daycare, I seek economic opportunities, the establishment of more both public and private facilities, the growth of jobs, better quality child care can and an investment in people with a means to improve their quality of life.

I will work at City Council on behalf of Ward 3 young families with both the Federal and Provincial Governments to bring about this needed family service in our Communities of Ward 3

Work with me and vote “to create change”

Calgary’s Film and Entertainment – Film and Production Facilities

Creating the new Media Centre for East Calgary Village will be of economic benefit to the entire city.

As a past Radio and Television Broadcaster for more than 20 years, I am in full support of the Cultural and Social activities that cultivate our community. I personally understand their necessity through my own participation in many social events, music concerts, pageants and religious festivals.

I value the contributions of Calgary’s FILM AND PRODUCTION FACILITIES AND THE GROWING INDUSTRY IN OUR CITY.

POST PANDEMIC,  WE WILL SEE GROWTH WITH PRESENT FILMS, post-production and increased activities with the Calgary FILM CENTRE.

It is estimated that the annual GDP impact of the Film Industry is projected to be upwards of $480 million dollars with continued expected growth.

This industry will continue to provide jobs, economic growth and provide economic stability.

I would encourage the youth in our City to consider careers in the Entertainment and Film Industry.

My five-pillar policy platform calls for the development of jobs within the economy. Policies and initiatives must be pursued in order to create a stable market for job creators and for small businesses to succeed.

What better way to create change, than in the Entertainment and Film Industry of Calgary and beyond.

A NOTE TO THE RESIDENTS OF WARD 3

Prior to my decision in May of 2021, to seek the position of Councillor for Ward 3 on the election day of October 18, 2021, I spent my time from late 2020 studying a wealth of information on the City of Calgary.

Reading the information on the City of Calgary website as to the committee structure and the duties, work description and true responsibilities of a city councillor is what has led me to make the decision to run for elected office.

As stated, I want to serve with passion and participate in creating change. I will work hard to ensure that we are investing in people and improving the quality of life in Ward 3 and throughout our great City of Calgary.

In my review of the documents on the City of website I reviewed a document titled:

‘Fall 2020 Quality Of Life And Citizen Satisfaction Survey. Ward 3 Final Report. November 2020.’  – Prepared for the City of Calgary by IPSOS Public Affairs.

In my review of this lengthy document, it outlined in great detail the methodology used to review the residents of Ward 3. The study provided the highlights, quality of issues, reaction to Covid-19 pandemic and Taxation as well as cited numerous City programs and services provided by the City of Calgary administration.

Overall the residents of Ward 3 stated:

  • 81% – quality of life rating..
  • 87% – of residents are proud to live in Ward 3.
  • 87% – felt safe walking alone in the neighbourhood after dark.
  • 83% – believe Calgary is a great place to make a living and to raise a family.

The major issue of concern is set at 26% for infrastructures such as traffic and roads, while 71% are satisfied with city programs and services.

I will approach the duties of Councillor “ TO SERVE”, to practice transparency, accountability, sustainability and to provide proper Governance and to exercise forms of Leadership.

I want to work to make Ward 3 and our city a greater place to live, work and raise a family.

Kumar Sharma,

Candidate
